Austria — Renewable Heat Act (EWG) — Ban on New Fossil Heating in New Buildings
Austria's Renewable Heat Act (EWG, BGBl. I Nr. 10/2024) has prohibited the installation of fossil fuel heating systems in new buildings since 1 March 2024. New buildings must use renewable energy sources or quality-assured district heating. The law increases investment costs for new construction and drives demand for heat pumps and related installation materials.
