EU Regulation 2025/1988 on PFAS in Firefighting Foams

The European Commission adopted Regulation (EU) 2025/1988, amending Annex XVII of REACH to restrict per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in firefighting foams. This regulation introduces a ban on placing on the market and use of PFAS in firefighting foams with various transitional periods. It also sets a concentration limit of 1 mg/L for the sum of all PFAS and requires management plans for continued use during transition periods.
