German Building Energy Act 2024 — 65% Renewable Heating Requirement for New Buildings
The amended German Building Energy Act (GEG 2023, BGBl. I 2023 Nr. 257) requires that newly installed heating systems in new buildings within new development areas use at least 65% renewable energy from 1 January 2024. Transition periods apply for existing buildings, aligned with municipal heat planning. The requirement drives demand for heat pumps, district heating connections and related installation materials.
