Paints Directive: VOC Limits for Paints & Varnishes
Directive 2004/42/EC, known as the 'Paints Directive', limits the total content of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in certain paints, varnishes, and vehicle refinishing products. It aims to prevent air pollution by reducing VOC emissions. While an older directive, it remains active and relevant for construction products, setting specific VOC content limits that manufacturers must adhere to.
